Judith

This book which is in my Catholic Bible is not in the New Revised Standard Version.  I did read it though and it tells the story of Judith, the Jewess widow, who saves her people from the evil King Nabuchadnezzer by going to the camp of Holofernes and beheading him.  Holofernes and his hordes were camped and ready to destroy the Jews.  Judith's accomplishment is the strength of her love of her God and that is very forceful in this tale.  The notes preceeding the chapter state tht this book is rally an allegory and the feast of Passover is the story retold here of the Jews exodus and eventual safe passage.

This quote I noted " Not for vengeance did the Lord put them in the crucible to try their hearts, nor has he done so with us.  It is by way of admonition that he chastises those who are close to him."  The lord tests us because he loves us.  There is truth in that.  It reminds me of Job.
