Chronicles is like a recap of Kings but with an historian chronicler's emphasis. opens with a lineage of kings from David and emphasizes what David and Solomon accomplished. David is shown as a great man as his mercy attests he is made in the image of God. He himself realizes though that he has shed lots of blood to consolidate his people and so he abdicates building the temple himself. What a remarkable revelation by a King - a powerful figure who realized God is greater than man. No wonder we trace Christ to David's line. Rather he laid up the wealth for his son Solomon to do so. The other kings leading to the Babylonian capture are cited again. The early revelation that Kings would only be earthly and not to be confused with the heavenly Lord and King is shown through Kings and Chronicles. At the close of Chronicles2, we hear the people have refound Moses laws and they are being read to the people.
So interesting how we go back and forth between unity and confusion and rereading the Law is what steers us the right direction.
